Opioid Addiction and Recovery Resources
If you need help, we can help.
The opioid epidemic is ravaging America, and sadly Pennsylvania is no exception. In 2021, Pennsylvania experienced 5,449 drug-related overdose deaths. That’s almost 15 a day, and more than 43 per 100,000 Pennsylvanians – twice the national average. It has impacted, in some way, nearly every Pennsylvania family.
Nationwide, nearly 100,000 Americans died from overdoses, and the risk from synthetic opioids like fentanyl is growing exponentially. Tragically, fentanyl overdose has even become the leading cause of death among Americans ages 18-45. It’s clear our local communities are unable to cope with this epidemic alone.
Since taking office in 2019, Congressman Meuser has worked in a bipartisan manner to address the crisis of addiction. For the last three Congresses, Rep. Meuser has introduced the Family Support Services for Addiction Act. The legislation is a family and community-based approach to treatment that works to address the deep-seated effects of the SUD crisis on families. It would establish a grant program for nonprofit family community organizations that provide support for families of individuals struggling with SUD. These services can include information and referral, support groups, system navigation to assist a family in finding or accessing resources, parent training and education, specialized crisis support, and more.
Congressman Meuser is focused on ensuring that those on the front lines of the opioid epidemic in the Ninth District have the tools and resources they need to address the crisis. He’ll be working to help Ninth District counties and communities access the funding made available by Congress. It’s been one of his top priorities since taking office.
