MEUSER STATEMENT ON VOTING FOR THE FAMILIES FIRST CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE ACT
WASHINTON, D.C. – Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) issued the following statement after voting in support of H.R. 6201, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act.
“I commend the President and his Administration for taking decisive action to protect the well-being of our nation. Instituting a National Emergency will provide our government with valuable resources to safeguard the health of all Americans, certainty for our economy, and confidence that we will overcome this challenge. This bold step to harness the full power of the federal government, in tandem with leaders in the private sector, will ensure that our nation is equipped to act and ultimately defeat this virus.
“Last night, I voted for H.R. 6201, bipartisan legislation aimed at mitigating the economic impact of families and businesses adversely affected by coronavirus. In this time of uncertainty, Americans should be able to prioritize their health and well-being. That is why the bill allows business owners and employees to make data-driven -- not financially-forced -- decisions to navigate these challenging times. It also will provide for widely-available, free testing for any American who may be at risk. Republican House Leadership assured the inclusion of important sunset provisions that will only be in effect for the duration of this public health emergency, meaning that new economic programs and incentives established through H.R. 6201 will not become permanent entitlements. I am confident that President Trump’s mobilization of all federal resources, innovative public-private collaboration, and this legislation will allow us to combat this virus and guarantee certainty for the American people and the economy.”
