MEUSER VOTES AGAINST PARTISAN TRANSPORTATION BILL

July 1, 2020

POTTSVILLE, Pa. – Today, Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 2, Speaker Pelosi's partisan Green New Deal transportation wish list that fails to address the critical need to modernize our nation's infrastructure:

"We all agree, as do the American people, that our nation's infrastructure is in dire need of upgrades and modernization, yet House Democrats have brought forth another bill destined to go nowhere. Unlike past infrastructure bills, Democrats wrote this legislation without any Republican input. Nearly $2/$5 goes to unproven Green New Deal mandates, which, right out of the gate, puts a seemingly political agenda ahead of creating tangible projects.

"Our nation's infrastructure is the backbone of our economy - helping our businesses thrive and our nation maintain a competitive advantage in a diverse and changing world. We must offer the American people a transportation bill which results in safer roads, modern highways and improved infrastructure. We also cannot put the burden completely on the taxpayers and should prioritize projects with a return on investment. Rep. Webster and I recently introduced the Infrastructure Bank for America Act, which would create a mechanism to accomplish this goal. Other countries, like China, are reaping the benefits of U.S. private investment in their infrastructure while we fall behind. These are serious times - it is time for us to get serious."
