Shamokin got $2.7 million to give Independence St. a makeover. Here's where the project stands

Shamokin was awarded $2.675 million in federal funding from a 2022 Ukraine funding bill to remodel Independence Street as it aligns with GoShamokin’s initiative to revamp that area of the city. U.S. Rep Dan Meuser, R-9, worked to include the line item in the bill as a way to support Shamokin's revitalization efforts.
