Congressman Meuser Reintroduces Resolution to Honor Families of Fallen First Responders

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) reintroduced H.Res.76, the Recognizing Gold Shield Families Resolution.
The resolution officially recognizes the service and sacrifice of fallen first responders and their families. Gold Shield Families are defined as the families of police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), correction officers, emergency dispatch officers, and emergency service providers who have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty protecting and serving their communities.
The loss of a first responder in the line of duty is a profound tragedy that leaves an enduring impact on their families, necessitating unwavering support and recognition from the nation they served. This resolution seeks to honor Gold Shield Families and the immense sacrifices they made for our country.
Meuser said, "As the son of a former New York City police officer, I understand the sacrifices that first responders and their families make each day. While these brave individuals dedicate themselves to protecting and serving our communities, their families pray that they will never hear the dreaded knock on their door delivering tragic news. For those who face such tragedies, it is essential to acknowledge the profound challenges they endure in the wake of their loved one's sacrifice. Gold Shield Families should never be forgotten as they navigate their hardships while upholding the legacy of their fallen heroes. My resolution acknowledges and honors the commitment and sacrifices of families of fallen first responders, whose unwavering courage and resilience inspire us all."
“When a first responder makes the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, their loved ones carry a heavy burden. These families, who we call Gold Shield Families, deserve more than just a passing thank-you—they deserve lasting support and recognition,” said Executive Director of Camp Freedom, Matt Guedes. “At Camp Freedom, we believe in standing by these families, as well as everyone who’s served our communities and country. By giving them a name like Gold Shield Families and honoring their service and sacrifice, we’re making it clear: they’re part of a bigger family, and they’ll never face their struggles alone. We’re here for them, every step of the way.”
