Congressman Meuser Votes in Favor of The HALT Fentanyl Act

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) voted in support of H.R. 27, the HALT Fentanyl Act, a measure that would permanently classify fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA).
Fentanyl overdoses continue to devastate communities across the country, including Pennsylvania. In 2023, fentanyl was linked to 76% of Pennsylvania’s 4,721 overdose deaths. The HALT Fentanyl Act would make permanent the emergency order issued by the DEA in 2018 under President Trump, which placed all fentanyl-related substances under strict federal control.
Without congressional action, the current temporary scheduling will expire on March 31, 2025.
“In 2023, a Pennsylvanian lost their life to a drug overdose every two hours,” said Congressman Meuser. “The HALT Fentanyl Act is a commonsense, bipartisan measure that ensures law enforcement has the necessary tools to go after traffickers while allowing researchers to better understand these lethal substances. The opioid crisis was exacerbated by the Biden Administration’s open border policies, and it is critical that the Senate act swiftly to pass this legislation and send it to President Trump’s desk.”
The HALT Fentanyl Act passed the House 312–108 and now awaits Senate consideration.
