MEUSER ANNOUNCES FEDERAL GRANT FOR BERWICK POLICE DEPARTMENT

June 3, 2020

POTTSVILLE, Pa. – Today, Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) announced that the Department of Justice's Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) has awarded a $566,123 grant to the Borough of Berwick Police Department:

"I am pleased to announce this grant for the Berwick Police Department through the COPS Hiring Program (CHP)," said Rep. Meuser. "As the department continues to work overtime to keep the community safe and defend against drug-related crimes and the challenges brought on by the coronavirus, they have identified the need to increase their community engagement. I want to thank Chief Ken Strish and the Berwick Police Department for their service."

"This grant will be transformative for our police department and the greater Berwick community," said Berwick Chief of Police, Ken Strish. "With this funding, we will be able to build upon our community engagement efforts and further succeed in our primary goal of keeping people safe. I am grateful for Congressman Meuser's efforts to advocate on our behalf. Without his assistance, it would not have been possible."

About the COPS Hiring Program (CHP)

CHP is a competitive award program intended to reduce crime and advance public safety through community policing by providing direct funding for the hiring of career law enforcement officers. In addition to providing financial support for hiring, CHP provides funding to state, local, and tribal law enforcement to enhance local community policing strategies and tactics. In a changing economic climate, CHP funding helps law enforcement agencies maintain sufficient sworn personnel levels to promote safe communities.
