MEUSER: APPALACHIAN ENERGY INDUSTRY CAN USHER IN NEW MANUFACTURING RENAISSANCE, FUEL ECONOMIC RECOVERY

June 30, 2020
POTTSVILLE, Pa. – Today, Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) joined a call with the United States Secretary of Energy, Dan Brouillette, to unveil the findings of a new report examining the economic progress and opportunities of the energy industry in the Appalachian region:
"I applaud today's positive phone call and the release of this report on the future of the American energy industry," said Rep. Meuser. "The Trump Administration and Secretary Brouillette are realistically bullish on how our domestic energy, especially in Appalachia and Pennsylvania, can usher in a manufacturing renaissance. This will include natural gas, rare earth element extraction, and near-zero emission coal used for both energy production and manufacturing."
Given the challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, a major component of the United States economic recovery will be the abundance of reliable, affordable energy to enable United States manufacturing and other sectors of the economy to reignite the pre-pandemic boom. Appalachia's economic viability during this recovery will serve as a key indicator of the prospects for, and overall health of our nation's economic recovery. The report unveiled today concluded that to fully realize the promise of this abundant energy, the public sector (Federal, State, and local governments) must continue to work proactively to catalyze additional private capital investment within the region. Ultimately, the private sector powers the economy and creates family-sustaining jobs.
