MEUSER JOINS LAWSUIT CHALLENGING THE CONSTITUTIONALITY OF THE DEMOCRAT RULE ON PROXY VOTING

May 29, 2020
WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-9) joined House Minority Leader, Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) as a plaintiff to the Leader's lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the Democrat rule on proxy voting.
"House Democrats voted to violate our Constitution by passing a resolution to allow voting by proxy. This rule change fundamentally alters how Congress operates and is a complete dereliction of our duty to represent the American people," said Rep. Meuser. "Under this partisan scheme, as few as 20 Democrats present on the House floor could unilaterally pass legislation. At a time when Congress should be working to move the country forward, Speaker Pelosi is upending precedent dating back to Congress' first meeting in 1789."
"I am glad to have Dan on board. By joining this lawsuit, Dan is making a commitment to refrain from using proxy voting, standing against an unconstitutional power grab that silences the voice of the American people," said Rep. McCarthy. "Dan is keenly aware of his oath as a Member of Congress. He, and no one else, was elected to represent the people of the 9th District of Pennsylvania in Washington. The Constitution is clear: Congress must assemble. Dan is helping lead the way in fighting for our most fundamental right as Americans."
