Meuser Statement on House Passage of Amended H.R. 3401

June 27, 2019

WASHINGTON — Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) issued the following statement after voting in support of the Senate's amendment to H.R. 3401, the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations for Humanitarian Assistance and Security at the Southern Border Act:

"I am pleased Democrat leadership has finally come to their senses in passing the Senate's overwhelmingly bipartisan bill that funds humanitarian assistance at our southern border. As a supporter of the Senate's amendment to this bill, I look forward to it now being signed into law by President Trump.

Although the bill isn't perfect, it includes $866 million to expand the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) shelter capacity for post-release services and for the well-being of children, and $1 billion for U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) to establish migrant care and processing facilities. Further, it provides $209 million for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to pay its officers and to counter-human trafficking. There is still work that needs to be done. We still need funds for physical border security and to pass the President's proposed reforms to update our immigration system, but this is a step in the right direction."
