Meuser Statement on House Vote to Appoint Impeachment Managers
WASHINGTON — Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) issued the statement after voting against House Resolution 798, which appoints impeachment managers for the impeachment trial of President Donald J. Trump:
For months, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Chairmen Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler have been claiming that the impeachment of President Trump is an 'urgent matter' requiring immediate action by Congress, but the American people know that this couldn’t be further from the truth.
Today, 28 days after voting to impeach the President, House Democrat leadership formally appointed their impeachment managers to serve as prosecutors in the trial against the President. In delaying this procedural step for nearly a month, Speaker Pelosi has shown the true motivation behind impeachment: trying to prevent the President's re-election.
In choosing House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff as the Lead Manager for the impeachment trial, Democrat leadership is doubling down on a fundamentally flawed process led by suspect players. Chairman Schiff has a proven record of limiting dissenting views, hiding exculpatory evidence, and being untruthful with the American public on details of the investigation and interaction with ‘the whistleblower.’
When the Senate begins the trial next week, the Democrat-appointed impeachment managers will present their flawed case, which lacks any evidence of Presidential wrongdoing. As such, I am 100% confident that the Senate will vote to acquit President Trump. I hope that this Democrat-led House can now move on and work for the American people, including efforts to reduce healthcare costs, cut taxes for families and small businesses, improve transportation infrastructure, and strengthen our military.
