Meuser Supports Legislation to Finally End Government Shutdown
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) released the following statement after voting to reopen the government by supporting the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act of 2026.
“After more than forty days of unnecessary and avoidable pain inflicted by the Democrat-forced shutdown, House Republicans passed, and President Trump signed into law, a continuing resolution to extend government funding through January 30th, 2026, while delivering full-year appropriations for Agriculture, the Legislative Branch, and Military Construction–Veterans Affairs.
“There is no question who was responsible for millions of families going without SNAP benefits, travelers stranded at airports, and federal workers unsure whether their next paycheck would arrive.
“Democrats voted 15 separate times to keep the government closed, dragging out the longest shutdown in U.S. history, while prolonging the suffering of the American people, especially federal workers going without pay and families who rely on essential programs like SNAP.
“For more than six weeks, families, seniors, small businesses, and federal workers across Pennsylvania’s Ninth District and the country, endured the consequences of an entirely avoidable shutdown — one caused by Democrats’ repeated refusal to pass a clean, commonsense continuing resolution. While Democrats put politics over the American people, House Republicans never stopped fighting for them.
“Our focus remains exactly where it has always been: delivering real results for the American people. I, along with my Republican colleagues, will continue advancing the priorities the American people sent us here to address, including:
- Completing full-year appropriations in a responsible, timely manner
- Making life more affordable for working families
- More regulatory reform to strengthen our economy and ensure continued growth
- Ensuring our borders remain secure
- Encouraging responsible, American energy production
- Working with the Small Business Administration to clear the backlog of small business loans and ensure the resources are in place to support entrepreneurs
- Advancing key Financial Services Committee work — including support for community banks, responsible regulatory reform, and improved oversight
- Protecting Americans through anti-fraud and anti-scam initiatives and legislation
- Ensuring every American feels the relief of our historic Working Families Tax Cuts legislation
“The American people deserve a government that functions and a Congress that leads with common sense. With this unnecessary shutdown behind us, House Republicans will continue doing what we’ve been doing all along — working hard, staying focused, and delivering results for the American people.”
