Congressman Meuser at House Financial Services Committee Hearing on Deposit Insurance

In the Financial Services Committee hearing, the committee heard from witnesses on the future of deposit insurance in our banking system. In 2015, the number of banks was 5300. Today, it’s 4100. Fewer community banks means weakened access to capital for small businesses.
This is an important discussion and is clearly a debate within the banking community. We must ensure deposits are protected, expand access to capital, make lending cheaper, increase affordability for small businesses, and Make Community Banking Great Again.
