Rep. Meuser Delivers Floor Speech on the Housing for the 21st Century Act

February 11, 2026
This week, the House passed the bipartisan Housing for the 21st Century Act, 390–9—legislation led by Financial Services Committee Republicans Chairman Congressman French Hill and Housing Subcommittee Chairman Congressman Mike Flood to cut red tape, lower costs, and get more homes built—faster.
Housing affordability is a supply problem, and this bill tackles it head-on by streamlining permitting, modernizing outdated programs, and expanding VA loan access—real, practical steps toward restoring homeownership.
This is an important first step in advancing President Donald J. Trump’s pro-growth housing agenda. Working alongside HUD  Secretary Scott Turner, we’re shifting federal policy away from bureaucracy and back toward building.
