Meuser Chairs FSC O&I Subcommittee Hearing in Little Rock, AR

March 13, 2026

LITTLE ROCK, A.R. - Today, Rep. Dan Meuser (PA-09) chaired the Financial Services Committee Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee hearing in Little Rock, which exposed the depth of dysfunction at the Little Rock Housing Authority.

Testimony revealed years of misconduct and mismanagement. Witnesses described nepotistic hiring, contracts steered to friends and family, and housing resources being misused. Ineligible individuals were reportedly placed in public housing units, and appliances were allegedly taken for personal use. Evidence from federal investigations also pointed to schemes involving straw buyers and shell corporations used to conceal property ownership tied to housing operations.

Current leadership has inherited a deeply broken system. Records were missing, financial accounts were difficult to access, and basic management systems were not maintained. Meanwhile, thousands of families remain on waiting lists while housing units sit vacant.

The physical condition of many properties reflects these failures. Streets, signage, and buildings have deteriorated, leaving residents in conditions far below what public housing should provide.

While some individuals connected to these schemes have already been prosecuted, serious questions remain about whether full accountability has been achieved.

This hearing is an important step toward restoring oversight and transparency. Republicans on the Financial Services Committee will continue pressing for answers, working with HUD to stabilize operations, clean up finances, and ensure housing authorities are properly managed so residents can live in safe, livable homes and taxpayers know their dollars are being used responsibly.
