Meuser Joins Vice President Pence to Discuss USMCA

June 6, 2019

WASHINGTON — Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) today joined Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary Alexander Acosta, Congressman Lloyd Smucker (PA-11), and Congressman Scott Perry (PA-10) for a tour of the JLS Automation facility and a discussion regarding the importance of finalizing the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) for Pennsylvania farmers, workers, and businesses.

"Today's meeting with Vice President Pence reinforced the importance of free, fair, and reciprocal trade in Pennsylvania. Our businesses, farmers, manufacturers, and fabricators rely heavily on a balanced trading relationship with Mexico and Canada. In 2017, exports to Canada and Mexico totaled more than $14 billion in Pennsylvania," said Meuser. "Not only does the USMCA have benefits internationally, but domestically it will add approximately $68.8 billion to the U.S. economy and spur more than 175,000 jobs. Trade is vital to Pennsylvania's economy, and its products span the globe."

Background

Trade with Canada and Mexico supports more than 470,000 jobs in Pennsylvania alone. Rep. Meuser has been a leading voice in the U.S. House of Representatives highlighting the importance of approving this free trade agreement. Earlier this week, he called on House Leadership to bring the USMCA to the floor for approval and spoke about its benefits for communities throughout Pennsylvania's Ninth District and all of North America.
