Meuser Statement on Consolidated Appropriations Act

February 14, 2019

Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-9) tonight issued the following statement after opposing the fiscal year 2019 appropriations package on the House floor:

"The United States' border security personnel pleaded for $5.7 billion to secure our border. Democrats ignored these concerns and as a result, this bill falls far short," said Meuser. "This bill does not meet the needs of our country's border security. It does not end the border crisis. We are essentially forcing the President to declare a national emergency because Nancy Pelosi and Congressional Democrats wouldn't do their jobs."

"I could not vote for a bill that averts a shutdown but does not fund Congress' core national security function of securing our citizens. It puts further immigration reform on other issues – DACA, or extended work visas for agricultural workers, for instance – in jeopardy. We cannot reform our immigration system until we have control of our borders," Meuser concluded.
