Meuser Sworn Into 116th Congress, Announces Office Openings & District Staff

WASHINGTON – Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) was sworn in Thursday as a member of the 116th Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 9th District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Meuser was joined yesterday by his family and more than 70 9th District residents who made the trip to DC to be with Dan as he took the oath of office and got to work on behalf of Pennsylvania families.

“This was a ‘We the People’ day and I was honored to be joined by so many Pennsylvanians as I was sworn in to the People’s House,” said Congressman Meuser. “It was a reminder of my vow to be their voice, and every day I’ll work as if my constituents are in the room with me as I make decisions.”

Meuser also today announced the opening of his Washington, DC office and his central District Office location in Pottsville, Schuylkill County. Location details are listed below. Additional office locations in Berks and Lebanon Counties will be announced in the coming days. Meuser’s staff will also be holding regular satellite office hours at locations in Luzerne, Columbia, Montour, Northumberland and Carbon Counties. Meuser also announced the appointment of his District Office staff, which will be responsible for constituent services, casework and district outreach.

Deputy District Director John Gower, a Luzerne County native, served as Meuser’s campaign coordinator during the 2018 race, traveling across the 9th District with Dan and building relationships with constituents and local community and elected leaders. Gower was formerly the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Federation of College Republicans and interned in the office of Pennsylvania Senate President Pro-Tempore Joe Scarnati.

Deputy District Director Katie Hetherington Cunfer is a lifelong 9th District resident with extensive experience in state and federal government, including service with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. She lives on a beef cattle farm in Carbon County with her husband and daughter.

Michael Shay, Casework Manager/Grant Specialist, served as Casework Manager for former Congressman Lou Barletta, where he built deep relationships that will help 9th District residents navigate the federal bureaucracy. Shay is a Schuylkill County native and a Bloomsburg University graduate who lives in Luzerne County.

Karen Ludwig, Constituent Services Representative, served on the staff of former Representative Charlie Dent as a constituent services advocate. A veteran of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, Karen is active in her local American Legion post. She lives in Lebanon County with her husband and three children.

Denise Weaver, Constituent Services Representative, served eight years in the United States Navy and worked most recently for former Congressman Ryan Costello. She’s long been deeply involved in the Berks County veterans community and has extensive relationships within the V.A. health care system. She lives in Berks County with her husband and has two daughters.

Joshua Fidler, Constituent Services Representative, is a Navy veteran of six years and three active duty deployments. He previously worked as a constituent outreach specialist for Representative Barry Jozwiak.

District Staff Assistant Nathan Gerace is the mayor of Tamaqua, Schuylkill County. One of the youngest elected mayors in the nation, he graduated from Tamaqua Area High School in 2016.

Longtime Pennsylvania native Mary O’Connor will serve as Service Academy Liaison. She serves the same role for Congressman Lloyd Smucker and has previously served as Academy Liaison for former Congressmen Ryan Costello and Joe Pitts.


“I’ve said that we’ll have the most effective and most responsive District staff in the country, and we’ve put a team in place that will keep that promise,” said Congressman Meuser. “Whether it’s assisting firehouses with grant applications, helping homeowners navigate the flood insurance program, raising awareness about drug addiction and treatment, or cutting through red tape at agencies like the VA or Social Security, we are here to serve.
