Managing to successfully muddle through a couple of political dust-ups, Northeast Pennsylvania’s federal and state legislators provided answers to questions on several key issues at Friday’s Back Mountain Chamber Legislative Breakfast.

During a House Financial Services Committee hearing on Wednesday, Rep. Dan Meuser (R-PA) commended Treasury Sec. Scott Bessent for recent small business actions.

“We need to focus on results, not rhetoric,” Meuser said. “With $36 trillion in debt and rising interest payments, we’re now spending more on servicing debt than we are on national defense. That is unacceptable.”

Meuser praised Hazleton for taking action where Washington too often stalls.

“We’ve seen school choice, vocational training, and entrepreneurial support deliver real outcomes in communities like this. The results speak for themselves.”

Responding to the Democratic Party's harsh criticism of President Donald Trump to mark the first 100 days of his second administration, Rep. Dan Meuser told Newsmax on Tuesday that the opposition offers no viable alternative to the current policies.

The Pennsylvania Republican told Newsmax's "Newsline" that the Democrats have "no plan, they've got no vision — and they certainly are not about delivering results of strengthening our economy, strengthening our national security, and what we are going to do, bring common sense back."

The City of Williamsport Old City Revitalization project east of Market Street is moving forward and a Washington, D.C. consulting firm is helping the city meet its planning and funding goals for it.

The project is moving ahead with the congressional support of U.S. Rep. Dan Meuser, R-Dallas, who was able to procure $2.2 million for four components: City street light modernization, Willow Street pedestrian improvements, Fourth Street utility improvements, and Basin Street riverwalk connector, according to a discussion with City Council getting an update from Keller Partners and Co., and Andrew Garfinkel, vice president and managing director of grants, loans and procurement at the company which has been the city consultant since 2021.
