U.S. Rep. Dan Meuser (R-PA9) met with local protesters at the Lebanon County municipal building prior to delivering remarks to county business leaders at a Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce luncheon held at Lebanon City Hall on Thursday, May 29.

Meuser said the 75-minute meeting with the protestors was quite civil.

“They offered questions and had comments that were important to them, and frankly, important to me,” Meuser said.

BARNESVILLE, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It’s top of mind for many Americans: Tariffs. On Tuesday, Congressman Dan Meuser spoke to business leaders in Schuylkill County about President Trump’s tariff policies.

As the trade landscape under the Trump administration continues to change, some tariff plans have been paused while others remain in place.

Congressman Meuser recognized that while the tariffs have impacted the markets and area industries, he believes that in the end, President Trump’s plans will benefit the US.

“Look, this is, if you agree with 90% of something, I think that means it’s a go. If they’re going to have some nuance changes, that’s understandable okay knock yourself out try your best behind closed doors but in the end they need to be supportive and they send something back to us that’s okay. But look, again on savings, we want more savings but this isn’t the last bill we’re ever going to pass. We will have another shot at reconciliation again next year. There’s so much in this bill for taxes, for our national security, for our border, for economy. We’re going to bring down inflation, which will bring down interest rates. We’ll make housing, for instance, that much more affordable. It needs to happen now."

“I believe we were elected to work with President Trump to improve our country — to improve our national security, strengthen our economy, bring fiscal sanity to our budget, deliver accountability, and lead the world toward peace,” Meuser’s news release said. “And frankly, to bring back common sense so people start trusting the government again.
