President Biden's decision to commute the sentences of 37 federal death row inmates is not just senseless—it's an outrageous example of this administration's upside down and backwards ideology. From leaving our borders wide open to enabling cartels and gutting American energy, Biden's out-of-touch agenda keeps putting America last. January 20th cannot come soon enough.

As I said to CNN, it feels like we're already working with President Trump's White House because President Biden has been completely missing in action. While Biden sits on the sidelines during critical government funding negotiations, President Trump is setting the tone for transformational leadership, a month before even taking office. We’re working toward a solution that provides responsible disaster relief, cuts spending, and addresses the debt ceiling, as President Trump requested. Together, we'll advance an America First agenda that benefits the American people.

President Trump was elected by the people, and his America First Agenda was on the ballot. The President's plan for government funding is what we should be backing. We should be looking to enhance it, support it, and offer ideas to improve it, but not add to it or change it. Any deal to keep the government open should address the debt ceiling as the incoming president requests. He will be our President, our Decider-in-Chief – our goal in Congress must be to work together to implement the agenda the American people voted for.

Regarding government funding, I very simply discussed the need to work in concert with the incoming White House and ensure that every dollar of taxpayer money is accounted for – the proposed CR yesterday failed to do that. So there’s work to do. I also discussed DOGE and how it did its job shining a light on what was in the initial CR to the American people. We also addressed upcoming reconciliation legislation and how it too must be led by the incoming White House.

DOGE is about making government work smarter, cutting waste, and respecting taxpayer dollars. We’re going to address hundreds of billions of dollars in federal overpayments, ratchet down spending to pre-Covid levels, and responsibly reduce unnecessary programs at agencies across our bloated bureaucracy. Working with President Trump, there is at least $1 trillion in spending we can rein in.

I have been reviewing the legislation, and there are many troubling provisions that I have serious concerns about. I also highlighted the first-ever meeting of the House DOGE Caucus—an important step toward addressing our bloated federal government and ensuring accountability for taxpayer dollars.

While the proposed Continuing Resolution would ensure that President Trump and a unified Republican Congress have control over the federal budget in March, I have serious concerns with the legislation and continue to review it. With the bill text received just last night, my team and I have been diving into the specifics to determine if this CR is the right way forward for the short term, acknowledging the fact that Schumer, Biden and Democrats control the Senate and the White House until January 20.
